The Memory of Aden Walker

2015

The Memory of Aden Walker is a speculative science-fiction immersive film exploring the future of human memory in a world where memories can be relived through immersive virtual experiences. When a transhuman becomes consumed by virtual memories of his deceased wife, the boundaries between reality, memory, and desire begin to blur. Made with Google Cardborad and a custom app.

Set in a future where humans can enter their own memories, the film follows Aden Walker, a transhuman and virtual designer who uses his skills to recreate his deceased wife, Simone, within a virtual world. With the help of his childhood friend Z, a specialist in virtual touch, Aden hacks into his own brain to reunite with her. As he becomes increasingly attached to this reconstructed version of his wife, he struggles to reconcile his virtual existence with the physical world. Experienced through a Google Cardboard headset, the work combines immersive visuals, sound, and physical vibrations to create a multisensory journey into memory. Drawing from my fascination with photographs, videos, and objects as gateways to the past, the project asks: If technology allows us to relive our memories with increasing realism, what happens to the way we remember, grieve, and move forward? And are humans meant to forget? Perhaps not everything is meant to be remembered.
