2017

Imox is an immersive experience about immigration that invites audiences to embody a drop of water on a journey across time, borders, and landscapes. Through water’s dual nature as a source of life and a witness to loss, the work explores migration, displacement, and the forces that shape our movement across the world.

Across cultures, water has symbolized healing, renewal, rebirth, and belonging. Yet it is also a site of loss, where countless migrants and refugees have perished in their search for safety, freedom, and a place to call home.

The experience invites audiences to become a drop of water and travel through time, retracing a journey shaped by both natural forces and human-made barriers. Crossing deserts and confronting hostile borders, the droplet draws on the memory of its origins in rivers and oceans to navigate a world that seeks to restrict its movement.

By connecting the universal necessity of water with the lived realities of migration and displacement, Imox challenges the idea that borders are natural or inevitable. It asks us to reconsider our relationship with movement, belonging, and survival, reminding us that, like water, our histories are interconnected and our journeys rarely begin or end in one place.
